So, I have been listening to a buddies sermon at rechurch and he makes the comment that churches don't mind talking about money, but don't really ever talk about sex.
So....
I propose a new contract for churches.. If you want to talk about openly about money. Talk just as openly about Sex. AND i propose a contract.....preach them, teach them, admonish them in equal amounts.

Deal.
I once preached a young adult thing about...
"Manifestations are like orgasms"
I'm more comfortable preaching about sex than money, isn't that screwed up? But I rarely talk about either in our services. But that has more to do with a feeling I have that the pulpit is really not the right place for such conversations (not that I often have a pulpit, but hopefully you get what I mean).
Both of those topics need to be part of our community dialogue. One of the ways we shoot ourselves is by never talking about sexuality - and when that is a taboo subject it literally kills people caught up in the shame of their choices thinking no one else will understand. It took the life of a very dear friend of mine, I knew he had a problem - but he never could talk about it. And it wasn't that he wasn't spiritual enough - this guy would often weep in the presence of God.
So I'm good to make that contract - but I don't just want it in the pulpit, I want it all over my life and ministry. When I counsel couples - I will continue to talk about both.
BTW Rob, I'm praying you guys have a great birth! Much love.
I agree, all of life should be transparent. I think of those people like your friend that suffer silently before god struggling with addictions, guilt. God isn't scared to meet people where they are at, neither should we.
cheers
